Mr J, and his family were in my studio for his newborn photography session. I absolutely love this gallery for a few reasons. One being, we got a little bit of everything. Some nice sleepy time poses, wide eyed, smiley, and also some beautiful family portraits. The second being, I love the neutral toned scheme Mom and Dad decided to go with.
Mr. J wasn’t as sleepy during his portrait session, but this is just an example of some of the great shots you can get with a wide awake baby. So no need to fret if your baby doesn’t stay sleeping throughout your session. As a matter of fact, Mr.J was probably one of the strongest little guys I’ve ever seen. When we laid him on his belly to get some “tushie up” poses, he was kicking his little legs like he was ready to crawl.
Newborn Photography – Shooting for Composites
The highlight of this session was definitely the photos we took with a prop that Mom and Dad brought with them. Dad is in a band, so little Mr J. already has his own guitar.
Since posing a newborn on a guitar is definitely not safe, I always like to shoot for composite images, in a situation like this. First, I took some photos of the guitar standing alone, and then some of the baby safely on a bean bag. Then, later on in Photoshop, I merge the two images together. Your baby’s safety is my number one priority during a session. This is a great way to get those personalized shots, without taking any risk of hurting the babe.
I definitely encourage you to bring along any special props or heirlooms to your newborn photography session. I love finding ways to incorporate these special items into your photo-shoot.
