I was so happy when this Brooklyn family came to me for beautiful, baby girl E’s cake smash photo session. Cake Smash sessions are some of my favorite sessions to do, because who doesn’t love cake! And getting messy! I also find most babies really enjoy themselves during these sessions.
Before the “cake smash” portion of the session, I usually take some portraits of the baby in the setup of the parent’s choice. Then after, once the baby has enjoyed smashing their cake, I also give the option for the baby to “splash” in one of the studio’s adorable bathtub props.
When we first brought out the cake Miss E was a little hesitant. She kept looking over at Mom with a “Are you really letting me do this right now” look on her face.
Miss E did an amazing job smashing her cake, she even used her light saber to help. (You can tell from the floor when it’s been a successful smash session.)
Choosing a Theme for a First Birthday Photoshoot
Miss E’s birthday is May 4th. So Mom and Dad thought it would be fitting to choose a Star Wars Theme. “May the 4th be with you!”
I was absolutely thrilled to do this theme because it’s something I’ve never done before. And I was able to get creative and have a little fun setting up.
As far as color, I went with traditional “Star Wars” colors. Black, gold, and little pops of orange. I also found Star Wars character balloons, which tied it all together. Amazon for the win!
The cake was provided by my dear friend and our baker over at Sammi Sweetz. I always recommend using Sam for your cake smash sessions. She makes the most adorable cakes and they taste amazing as well!
Mom and Dad brought the adorable robe and also a light saber to complete the look! Put all of this together and you have one perfect Star Wars ready cake smash photo session!
When it comes to cake smashes, themes are definitely a great idea! Whether it be a favorite color, baby’s favorite character, or something the baby loves. There are so many different themes to choose from, and I love being able to bring these together for you.
I really enjoyed doing this setup, and I hope Miss E had fun too! And I must admit Miss E had the prettiest eyes and eyelashes I ever did see! Happy Belated Birthday Miss E! May the 4th be with you!
