So it’s been a pretty exciting week, and I’ve been trying to get a blog post up for you guys to fill you in on all the happenings! One was this super cute first birthday portrait/cake smash session with little prince Mr. M.
Mr. M came into my Staten Island studio and brought along his wonderful family. When I spoke to Mr. M’s Mama for their pre-consultation, she wanted a theme that tied into their heritage. Their family is from Nigeria, so they wanted to include an adorable, traditional Nigerian outfit, and also a cake smash theme that would represent that.
First Birthday Portraits
We began the session with a simple setup, to showcase all of the beautiful outfits that Mama brought along with them. I love shooting on white and simple backdrops. They really showcase the baby. I think these images are a great example of how the styling and theme do not need to be too complicated.
The Cake Smash
Ah the fun part! For the Nigerian themed smash, at first I was a little stumped. So I did a little research and decided I wanted something colorful, but also not too over the top. I wanted to use bright colors, because when I think of Africa, my mind is drawn to seamless color patterns, and tropical climates.
Of course none of this would be possible without my good friend, and baker Sam, from SammiSweetz bakery in New Dorp. She always whips up the most delicious treats, and I swear she can read my mind. For this first birthday session, I literally just told her I needed a Nigerian themed cake. Of course, she ended up creating something that went along with the set perfectly!
Mr. M loved his cake, and he no problem whatsoever getting his little hands dirty. He gave me lots of smiles, and was a huge fan of my imitation sneeze! Which resulted in lots of giggles!
Check out below, some of the insanely cute images we captured of this sweet baby boy!
