“A ‘rainbow baby’ is a baby that is born following a pregnancy loss, or an infant loss. “In the real world, a beautiful and bright rainbow follows a storm, and gives hope of things getting better.”
Meet Miss A! She is the daughter to two incredibly sweet people, and I am so honored that I was able to capture this significant time in their life! Their journey through pregnancy was a bumpy one. But their miracle arrived on July 17, and she is perfect!
For her portraits, Mom and Dad definitely wanted to include some rainbow images, but also some to match her nursery, and the decor in their home. I always like to consult with my clients beforehand about the colors of the session. Also, where they would like to hang their portraits, so I can coordinate with props and outfits that we use. We decided on some soft pinks for the nursery, and sage green, with their living room decor in mind.
Miss A was a little rockstar during her session! She slept most of it, but also woke up so I could see her big, beautiful eyes. We also took some great family portraits. I love how the look of joy on Mom and Dad’s faces are shining through! I look at those images and I can’t help but smile. I am so happy this family is going to enjoy these portraits on their walls forever. And will remember this special time when they brought their baby home!
I’ll end this post with some of the images from Miss A’s session. But I also would like to shed some light on the subject of infertility and infant loss. So many families, including my own, have experienced this pain, and it can be very isolating. Well-meaning people may suggest a “rainbow baby” will allow you to forget. But you don’t want to forget. And you shouldn’t. There are many organizations dedicated to supporting baby loss. In fact, October 9-15, is Baby Loss Awareness week, please visit their website, and find out how you can get involved and support the work they do.
